Transit for Seniors & Persons with Disabilities

Providing transportation to seniors and persons with disabilities has become increasingly important in today's society. With baby-boomers becoming senior citizens, the impacts on public transportation are evident. A person who cannot drive depends on public transportation to be able to maintain their independence and continue to live happy and productive lives.

Contra Costa voters recognized the needs of senior and disabled persons by approving Measures C and J which include funding for transportation programs for these populations.

Authority Programs

Through the recommendations made in the Authority sponsored Paratransit Improvement Study [PDF - 3.3 MB], efforts are being made to improve programs available to seniors and persons with disabilities in Contra Costa County.

Both Measures C and J include funding for the purpose of improving transportation programs for seniors and disabled individuals. Programs not only support existing paratransit operations but also fund senior rides for shopping, meal programs, doctor's appointments and other important activities.

Contra Costa Paratransit Coordinating Council (PCC)

The PCC is a council made up of 26 individuals that represents seniors, disabled, transit/program operators, and public and private social service agencies to promote and support the provision of optimal paratransit service in the most user-friendly, customer oriented and cost effective manner for seniors and persons with disabilities in Contra Costa County.
