Alhambra Avenue Widening

The Alhambra Avenue widening project consists of three phases. The first phase of this project widened and upgraded an existing two lane arterial to four lanes from Alhambra Hills Drive to Shetland Drive transitioning back to two lanes north of MacAlvey Drive and conforming to the existing four lane facility south of Benham Drive. The first phase also modified five intersections, including signalization at MacAlvey Drive and the installation of new left turn lanes, sidewalks, bike lanes, retaining walls, soundwalls and landscaping. The second and third phases of this project will widen Alhambra Avenue from Mac Alvey to State Route 4 (the John Muir Parkway). Construction of retaining walls will be required to widen the road to four lanes in both sections. At this time, Measure C funding is allocated for only the second phase, consisting of installation of additional lanes, traffic signals and  soundwalls at the major intersections. These will be located to accommodate future widening to four lanes in the third phase.
