Whether you’re pedaling to work or taking a Sunday afternoon walk, Contra Costa County bike and pedestrian trails are ready and waiting. In 2006, the Authority encouraged residents to take advantage of the bicycling and walking paths traversing the county, as part of promoting alternatives to solo driving. for the Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Program, a federally-funded program that is regionally administered by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. The Authority will allocate over $13 million for projects in Contra Costa over a 12-year period. The Authority is also working on a new, local program to be funded through money generated from Contra Costa’s half-cent transportation sales tax. The sales tax will generate $30 million over 25 years to construct bicycle and pedestrian facilities, including regional trails, throughout Contra Costa.
